The day after I make my thoughts on girls wrestling public on my private Facebook page, I received all kinds of messages about this piece on the Today Show. If you didn’t get to see it, it’s amazing to watch such a role model discuss the importance of opening the sport up to women.
Wrestle Like a Girl was founded in 2016 by Sally Roberts, a US Army Combat Veteran and two time World bronze medalist in Women’s Wrestling. The non-profit organization was founded on the premise that girls and women should be afforded opportunities to participate in wrestling and that they can do anything.
Wrestle Like a Girl is leading a movement to encourage sanctioning at the state and NCAA levels. On their website they even have templates prewritten for you to edit, sign and send to athletic directors at NCAA Division I Universities. Wrestle Like a Girl is on the forefront nationally to lead the charge for equality in wrestling.
